Adan’s contract is said to contain a £7.4 million buy-out clause, but it would appear that neither West Ham United or Crystal Palace could be tempted.

West Ham United and Crystal Palace were both interested in signing Real Betis goalkeeper Antonio Adan during the summer transfer window, according to AS.

Adan’s future in Seville is said to have been in doubt as he sought an improved contract, of which West Ham and Palace were aware.

It is claimed Betis had set a starting price of €6 million (£5.5 million), but did not want the 30-year-old to leave without first securing a replacement. And although – according to AS – a return to the Liga side ‘tempted’ West Ham goalkeeper Adrian San Miguel, the Hammers ultimately decided to keep him, selling Darren Randolph to Middlesbrough instead.

Still, Adan’s existing contract is said to contain a termination clause of €8 million (£7.4 million), although it would appear that no club was willing to match it.

It is not clear at what stage West Ham were keen on the former Real Madrid player, and therefore whether it was before or after they loaned Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Despite selling Steve Mandanda back to Marseille, Crystal Palace failed to add to their options in goal ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

According to The Guardian, Palace made a late attempt to loan Brondby’s Frederik Ronnow, but to no avail.
