The Telegraph have claimed that West Bromwich Albion are trying to secure the future of defender Craig Dawson after the club were relegated to the Championship.

Dawson, 28, was one of the Baggies’ key figures last season, making 32 appearances in all competitions under Tony Pulis, Alan Pardew and then new manager Darren Moore.

It has seen him linked with moves away from the Hawthorns this summer, with the Mirror reporting last month that Celtic, West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley are all interested in the £15m-rated former Bolton rock.

But Baggies boss Moore is said to be confident in securing a deal for Dawson, with his favoured centre-back slot likely to be opened up as Leicester City close in on the £3million signing of Jonny Evans.

Dawson has been forced to play on the right side of defence as much as he has been used at centre-back during his time with the Midlands club, but now he could be used at centre-back – replacing Evans.

That could prove crucial in convincing Dawson to remain at West Brom, as Moore looks to thrash out a deal despite Dawson’s current contract still having two years to run until its expiry.
