According to a report from the Daily Mirror’s live transfer feed (05/05; 21:53), Celtic have become the latest side keen on signing Craig Dawson from West Bromwich Albion during the summer as the Baggies desperately cling to their Premier League status.

The Hoops have wrapped up another Scottish Premiership title and could end the campaign with their second consecutive Treble victory under Brendan Rodgers should they beat Motherwell in the final of the Scottish Cup.

Despite their success, there has been criticism of the Bhoys at times during the season, with their defence arguably taking a significant amount of flak for a side that has not failed to win a single domestic trophy since Rodgers arrived in 2016.

Right-back and centre-back have arguably been particularly problematic at times, and it appears that Rodgers is keen on addressing that by targeting Dawson, with the Daily Mirror’s live feed (05/05; 21:53) reporting that Celtic have joined the race for the 28-year-old.

It will not be easy for the Hoops to get something done however. The Mirror reports that West Ham United, Wolves and Burnley are also keen on signing Dawson as he continues to be one of the most impressive performers in a West Brom side that still looks set for relegation to the Championship despite their incredible win over Tottenham on Saturday.

The trio could offer Dawson the chance to stay in the Premier League if Darren Moore’s men go down. And while Celtic should be able to offer some involvement in the Champions League, the Mirror’s suggestion that Dawson is rated at £15 million surely creates another stumbling block – despite the report adding that he is likely to move elsewhere this summer.

Celtic may have the funds to sign a player for that figure – especially as some of their star names leaving would see their kitty boosted significantly, it seems – but Dawson is perhaps not the kind of player that Rodgers envisages spending such a substantial amount on during the upcoming window.

If they can Dawson through the Parkhead door for less, it could be a superb acquisition for Celtic, but with a number of teams also keen, perhaps the Hoops need the defender to want to join them to stand a really good chance of bagging his signature.
