Gilmour has been tipped to play for Mark Warburton’s first team within the next two years.

15-year-old Rangers talent Billy Gilmour is wanted by four of England’s top clubs according to the Daily Mirror.

Gilmour, who impressed for Scotland’s Under-16s during Sunday’s Victory Shield win against Northern Ireland, was this week tipped to play for Rangers’ first team by the age of 17.

And the Daily Mirror reports that the Ibrox side could be in luck, with the midfielder’s family understood to be keen on that happening.

Already, it is claimed that Gilmour could cost as much as £3 million – a figure unlikely to deter Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester pair United and City – although the Daily Record reports that Rangers may only receive between £100,000 and £300,000 in compensation.

Rangers’ academy has undergone a significant overhaul over the past 18 months, prompting its director Craig Mulholland to warn it could take up to five years to properly bear fruit.

However, Gilmour’s emergence is perhaps an early sign of things to come on the blue half of Glasgow.

Defender Danny Wilson and winger Barrie McKay are the only Auchenhowie products to have featured for Mark Warburton’s first team this season, although a number of others – notably Charlie Adam, Allan McGregor and Ross McCormack – are regulars in England’s top two divisions.
