Rangers youngster Billy Gilmour is being tipped for a huge future.

According to the Daily Record, an unnamed coach suggested that 15-year-old Billy Gilmour will make his Rangers debut within two years.

Since Rangers’ collapse in 2012, fans have been critical of the club’s inability to develop their own young talent, with the club’s youth setup failing to produce top young talent.

Lewis Macleod and Barrie McKay are rare success stories in recent years, with the likes of Andy Murdoch and Robbie Crawford failing to nail down regular places in the first team.

With the likes of Allan McGregor, Alan Hutton, Charlie Adam and Ross McCormack all starring in England having come up through the ranks at Ibrox, it’s time for Rangers to start developing young players again, especially having seen the likes of John Fleck and Jamie Ness walk away from the club in recent memory.

Manager Mark Warburton has placed more emphasis on youth development due to his own background in the NextGen series, and the likes of Liam Burt and Jamie Barjonas have been tipped for bright futures.

Now though, Rangers could have a legitimate future star on their hands, as the Daily Record carry quotes from an unnamed coach suggesting that Billy Gilmour will make his Rangers debut within two years.

General view before the match

Gilmour, 15, was named man of the match for Scotland’s Under-16’s in a 2-0 win over Northern Ireland on Sunday, with the midfielder impressing thanks to his ‘guile, technique and awareness’.

The unnamed coach subsequently backed Gilmour to make his first-team debut by the age of 17, suggesting that Rangers have a real star on their hands – and it’s now Warburton’s job to make sure Gilmour lives up to that potential over the coming years.
