Adama Traore reportedly rejected a huge contract offer from Tottenham to return to FC Barcelona on loan in the January transfer window.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish international turned down ‘a life-changing’ offer from the north London club and instead opted to a move to Barcelona, where Traore started his footballing career.
The former Wolves star has initially joined the Catalan giants on loan, however, it is expected that Traore will sign for Barcelona on a permanent deal at the end of the season in the summer window.
Traore was chased by Tottenham for the good part of 12 months, with both Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte keen on bringing the 26-year-old from Wolves. However, Traore opted for a return to Barcelona, who this season dropped down to the UEFA Europa League.
Indeed, the saga was a reflection of what Tottenham’s January transfer window unravelled to be. The north London club were linked with countless players in the month, but, Spurs only ended up with two new signings in Juventus duo Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski.
As for Traore, it speaks volume about the player that he rejected a massive contract offer from Tottenham to instead return home to Barcelona, where the winger is already making an impact with the La Liga giants.
Traore made right decision signing for Barcelona over Tottenham

It felt like a matter of ‘when’ Traore would sign for Tottenham rather than ‘if’. However, the decision to sign for Barcelona is already starting to feel like the right decision for the Spaniard, who starred in his debut for the La Liga club over the weekend.
Barcelona find themselves in an interesting period in their long and storied history, yet the signing of Traore is the kind of addition that will fire Xavi Hernandez’s side back to the top of the global game, much to the expense of Tottenham.
