CalcioMercato claim Inter Milan want as much as £38million for defender Alessandro Bastoni – and Tottenham are willing to pay it. The Italian could reunite with Antonio Conte at Spurs, having worked with him at Inter.
Bastoni, 23, joined Inter in the summer of 2017 from Atalanta – but spent his first season back on loan at Atalanta, and the second season at Parma. A bit-part player in his third season, he is now first choice with the Nerrazzuri.
Under Conte, Bastoni went from promising young player to accomplished and first-choice defender. The left-footed ace has clocked up 115 first-team outings for Inter – helping Inter win Serie A last season under Conte.
Little surprise, Spurs want a reunion. He has been linked with Tottenham for some time now, and the latest report names a price. Inter want £38million for Bastoni, and CM also state that Spurs are willing to pay.
Tottenham eye Bastoni: But Inter star does not seem as keen
A recent report suggested that Bastoni would reject the chance to join Spurs as he does not see them as a top-tier club. Qualifying for the Champions League would certainly help, but Spurs have slipped back behind Arsenal.
It might be that Spurs have to finish fourth to tempt Bastoni. The lure of working under a manager he believes is “phenomenal” and the “Lionel Messi of coaches” will surely appeal to Bastoni, though.
Spurs are expected to sign a left-sided centre-back. A back-up goalkeeper, midfielder, back-up striker and better options at wing-back could also walk through the door at Tottenham, this summer.
