Report: £43m-rated lefty to reject Conte reunion, does not see Tottenham as top tier

Italian website FC Inter News claim Inter Milan talent Alessandro Bastoni will reject a reunion with Antonio Conte at Tottenham. The reason, he does not see Spurs as a top-tier European club despite their fourth-place position.

Bastoni, 23, played 74 of his 112 Inter Milan matches under the guidance of Conte. The Italy international was crucial in Conte’s Inter that went on to win the Scudetto in 2019-20. Little surprise, Conte wants a reunion.

Tottenham need competition on the left side of the back three, alongside Ben Davies. The Athletic claimed in March that Bastoni, and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol are top targets. Gvardiol is set to stay in Germany, though.

Now, the latest report states that Bastoni is keen to remain at Inter. If he is forced to go though, he will reject Tottenham. That is because, Bastoni does not believe Spurs are a top-tier side – plus, he has a contract until 2024.

While Bastoni does not believe Spurs are top tier, qualification for the Champions League might just do that. Indeed, Champions League football and with Conte at the helm – it makes Spurs a big club once again.

If Spurs can keep Harry Kane, keep Conte and add some big-name players – Spurs will find themselves on the precipice of top tier. If all of those things happen, hinging on fourth, they could be a title challenger next season.
