Everton have placed Perkins on gardening leave ahead of his move to Tottenham. Spurs will task him with bringing the best talents into the academy for Wayne Burnett’s U23s and Stuart Lewis’ U18s.

Perkins made a name for himself during a five-year stint as Derby’s Head of Academy Recruitment. The Rams’ first-team was packed with players who graduated from the club’s academy during his spell at Pride Park.

Paratici will now want to see Perkins set Tottenham up for similar success over the coming years. With the Italian having big plans for the influential Everton figure in north London.

Tottenham long for turn of fortunes with Perkins appointment

Tottenham are clearly longing for Perkins to inspire a turn of fortunes at the club with his appointment. Spurs have a number of highly promising youngsters on the books at present, but few have made the step up successfully in recent seasons.

Troy Parrott has only made four first-team appearances for Tottenham and endured underwhelming loans with Millwall and Ipswich last term. Oliver Skipp, meanwhile, shone at Norwich, but has likewise yet left his mark in the capital.

However, Spurs will expect Skipp to stake his claim to minutes under Nuno Espirito Santo. And Paratici will want Perkins to discover other rising stars of that ilk for a brighter homegrown future at Tottenham.
