Rumoured Tottenham target Andrea Belotti has rejected a contract offer from Wolves in favour of signing for Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma, who are finalising a deal to bring the striker to the Stadio Olimpico.

According to Il Messaggero, the Italian international turned down a deal worth €3.5m-a-year (£3m) from Wolves in order to sign for Roma, who are close to completing the steps needed to acquire Belotti following his release from Torino at the end of last season.

As per the report, Roma and Mourinho was always going to be Belotti’s first choice when talks first began between the forward and the Giallorossi despite strong Premier League interest in the Serie A talisman, with Tottenham also reportedly interested in signing the Euro 2020 winner.

With Wolves loaning out Fabio Silva for the season, Belotti would have been an ideal replacement for the Portuguese youngster as an experienced backup for Raul Jimenez or even a rotational player in the forward line for Bruno Lage’s side this season.

However, despite the contract offer, which equates to around £58,000-a-week, Belotti is set on signing for Roma despite the opportunity to play in the Premier League with Wolves, with the Molineux side looking to break into the European conversation yet again in the new campaign.

Indeed, Belotti’s style of football could have been perfect for the English game, but for Wolves and Tottenham, it is Mourinho’s Roma who have won the race for the prolific Italian striker, who could become a real threat for the Serie A side next season.

Whilst Wolves have solid attacking options in Jimenez and Hwang Hee-chan, Belotti would have a been another incredible addition to the squad for the season, especially with Lage eager to take the West Midlands side back to the continental stage after two years away from Europe.

However, the pull of Roma and Mourinho was simply too much for Wolves, and for Belotti, the striker is joining a top club entering an exciting phase of their current era, with the Serie A side looking to challenge for the Scudetto under the iconic Portuguese manager.
