The Mail claims Tottenham are set to beat Chelsea and Manchester United and sign Blackburn Rovers talent Ashley Phillips – after Fabio Paratici gave Spurs the green light to bring the young centre-back to North London.
Phillips, 17, has been linked with some of England’s biggest clubs throughout the summer. A fee of £3million is said to be enough to tempt Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side to cash in on their five-time England Under-17 international.
A player branded “phenomenal” by Tomasson’s predecessor Tony Mowbray, Phillips has now made his senior Blackburn debut. He starred in a 4-0 win in the Carabao Cup over Hartlepool, and got a start in the Championship.
Indeed, Tomasson trusted Phillips to start on Sunday in a 2-1 win over West Brom. He could get a third appearance against Reading on Wednesday night. But he may now be left out, as The Mail claim he is about to leave.

The report states that Tottenham are set to win the race for Phillips – ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United. Clubs are becoming increasingly interested with his current Blackburn deal set to expire at the end of the 22-23 season.
Tottenham set to sign Blackburn talent Phillips
He is a serious talent. Phillips has already broken into Blackburn’s side at Championship level. He has earned the trust of Tomasson, helping Blackburn to win two senior outings. A figure of £3million, if that is the fee, is cheap.
Tottenham have one eye on the status of their homegrown quantity of players. Adding Phillips will help that moving forward. He could even get a chance in the Cups under Antonio Conte in the coming months.
Especially, with Joe Rodon departing for Rennes and Japhet Tanganga also being linked with the exit door. So, signing Phillips could help Spurs now, in the future, their homegrown quota and hardly touches their transfer budget.
