The Mail claim Tottenham have added Atletico Madrid star Mario Hermoso to their summer shortlist – along with Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol. It is believed Diego Simeone is open to his sale, for the right price.
Hermoso, 26, has been a fringe player of late at Atletico Madrid – watching from the bench in both legs against Manchester United and Manchester City. He last started a game on February 6, a 4-2 loss to Barcelona.
A five-time Spain international, Hermoso is just seven games shy of clocking up 100 appearances for Atleti – having come through the academy at rivals Real Madrid. He has also turned out for Espanyol and Real Valladolid.
Yet to leave Spain, Atleti’s £25million (Mail) man could be on his way to North London – with Spurs also targeting Gvardiol and Bastoni. But RB Leipzig are unwilling to sell Gvardiol, and Bastoni is not tempted.
Given he is about to enter the last two years of his Atletico Madrid contract, and that he is struggling to get into Simeone’s side – the Argentine gaffer is said to be open to selling the player he signed himself just three years ago.
Tottenham eye Hermoso: Should Spurs sign Spain star?
There a number of areas Spurs need depth. Another midfielder, a back-up striker, a back-up goalkeeper, and perhaps better quality at wing-back. Another is competition for the incredibly consistent Ben Davies.
Hermoso is ideal. Left-footed, he can play as a centre-back, left of a back three and as a left-back. If Hermoso is available for a similar fee to the one Atletico paid Espanyol in 2019, then Daniel Levy should bite their hand off.
