According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham Hotspur have an interest in Lille centre-back Sven Botman.
Tottenham are very keen to bolster their defence this summer. They’ve been strongly linked to the likes of Gleison Bremer and Alessandro Bastoni, but with both of those deals proving to be difficult, the London club may now turn to Botman.
The Dutch defender has been a star in France over the past two years or so, helping Lille to the title in 2021, before an impressive 2021/22 campaign.
However, as always, this deal may not be straightforward.
Indeed, Tottenham are not the only team in the mix for Botman.
The Dutch defender has reportedly been very close to joining AC Milan, while Newcastle remain confident that they can get him to St James’ Park.
In fact, according to Amanda Staveley in an interview with The Athletic earlier this year, Botman wants to join Newcastle, but, of course, interest from Spurs could change things on that front.
With all due respect to Newcastle United, Tottenham are a bigger club. Spurs will be playing Champions League football next term, and they have one of the greatest managers in the world at the helm.
Of course, Spurs can’t quite compete with Newcastle on the financial front, and sadly, far too often, money talks on these matters.
Botman is more than likely going to be on the move this summer, but it remains to be seen whether he ends up in Milan, Newcastle or north London.
