Christian Eriksen to Tottenham Hotspur has the makings of a fairytale.

The Denmark international quit Spurs two-and-a-half years ago to join Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan in an £18 million deal.

But after his major health scare 12 months ago, Eriksen has been rebuilding his career and has been linked with a surprise return to North London after proving he can still be an effective Premier League player following a six-month spell with Brentford during the second half of last season.

It was even reported that the 30-year-old was keen on moving back to the Lilywhites.

However, Tottenham have seemingly changed their mind on signing the playmaker.

According to The Daily Star, Conte and Fabio Paratici have cooled their interest in a development which now makes Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag – who let him train at Ajax last season – favourite to bring the player to Old Trafford instead.

Christian Eriksen to Tottenham Hotspur won’t be happening it seems.

But it’s still vital that Conte and Paratici bring a playmaker to North London during the summer months.

They have signed a winger in Ivan Perisic already, as well as a midfielder in the form of Yves Bissouma.

However, the Italian manager absolutely needs a number 10.

Spurs’ most creative player looked to be Harry Kane last season and considering he’s also their best goalscorer, that’s a problem only a genuine playmaker will save.

It won’t be Eriksen by the look of things, but Tottenham certainly need to look at similar players.
