As per a report by Calciomercatoweb, Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo is far from satisfied with Roma’s contract extension proposal to tie him down beyond 2024.
Zaniolo could reject extension in favour of an exit
So much so that it has been stated that at this point, a sale involving the Italian international seems likely, either in January or in the summer.
Previously, Calciomercatoweb had stated that Antonio Conte was insistent on the arrival of his fellow countryman at Tottenham Hotspur.
Interestingly enough however, the Italian outlet had reported last month that the 23-year-old had agreed to extend his contract with Jose Mourinho’s side.
However, it seems as if the situation has flipped on its head, which is welcome news for the North London outfit.
After all, journalist Gianluca di Marzio had told Wett Freunde last month that Spurs were the most likely side to sign Zaniolo, due to the player wanting to work at a team with sporting director Fabio Paratici in charge.
In addition, di Marzio had gone as far to rule Arsenal out, as well as any other suitors in the market, emphasising that the Lilywhites were clear favourites for the silky midfielder’s signature.
Tottenham should wrap up the Zaniolo deal in January
With the initial report suggesting that an exit seems on the cards for Nicolo Zaniolo, Tottenham Hotspur should direct their efforts towards bringing him in January.
Amongst the club’s priority positions, midfield most certainly is, as Rodrigo Bentancur is the only attack-minded presence as Antonio Conte’s disposal in the middle of the park currently.
With Spurs aiming to secure their presence in the top 4 at the end of the season, an acquisition such as Zaniolo could help them rise above their domestic competition to guarantee Champions League football.
