Reported Tottenham target Dusan Vlahovic is close to signing a new contract with AFC Fiorentina which includes a release clause that could be as high as €80m (£68m).
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Serbian international is on the verge of penning a new mega-deal with the Serie A side.
Vlahovic was linked with a move away from Fiorentina for the majority of the window. But the 21-year-old attacker remained in Tuscany.
One of the sides keen on Vlahovic was Spurs. With Fabio Paratici keen to sign the youngster should Harry Kane leave north London. As we know, the Tottenham star remained with the Premier League side despite strong interest from Manchester City.
With Kane’s future still uncertain, Vlahovic could still be an option for Spurs. Whilst the attacker’s new contract reportedly boasts a €4m-a-year salary, the release clause could make it easier for Tottenham to make a move for the Balkan star.
We saw this summer just how much City struggled to sign Kane. The attacker currently doesn’t have an exit clause in his Spurs deal. Indeed, whilst such an option does allow clubs to name their price for players, interested parties also know exactly how much a certain name is worth.

City again proved this summer the power release clauses can hold. With the Premier League champions signing Jack Grealish after activating a £100m purchase option that had been negotiated in the playmaker’s deal with Aston Villa.
Vlahovic will cost Spurs a club-record fee if they are to make a move for the forward following this news on his contract. But activating the Serb’s release clause will give Tottenham a clear path to sign the exciting youngster.
