Tottenham are seemingly in a fantastic position to sign Weston McKennie in January, and Juventus are now exploring ways to spend the transfer fee.

What’s the story?

Well, the United States international is said to have a £25m price tag on his head – according to Calciomercato – with Tuttosport adding that Spurs are preparing a bid as they lead the race for his signature.

Now, it seems as if the Italian giants are confident of receiving a good amount of money for McKennie.

A fresh story from Tuttosport claims that Juventus are expecting to sell the American, and will use the funds to sign a new right-back with Ivan Fresneda of Real Valladolid in their sights.

You may argue that a European giant of Juventus’ stature can afford to sign a right-back from Real Valladolid without selling someone first.

However, finances are currently tight in Turin, after the entire board resigned at the Allianz Stadium following losses of €254.3m (£220m) – a record in Italy.

Therefore, Tuttosport‘s claim certainly adds up, and all signs point to McKennie joining Tottenham in January.

Fabio Paratici – Director of Football at Spurs – has already signed the 24-year-old once in his career, bringing him to Juventus from Schalke 04 back in 2021.

McKennie made a real impact for the United States in Qatar before their 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands at the Round of 16 stage, and should a move to Spurs materialise, he would be a superb addition for Antonio Conte.

McKennie may have to be patient at Tottenham

Squad depth is vital in the Premier League, so McKennie is certainly needed in N17 as Conte aims to go far in the Champions League, FA Cup and also the league.

However, the Italian’s current midfield duo of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and, especially, Rodrigo Bentancur, are playing at a very high level right now, so if McKennie does arrive in north London, he may have to be patient and bide his time for a starting role.

Nevertheless, if Spurs can take advantage of Juventus and their difficult situation by signing the American, it would be a very shrewd move indeed.
