Jeunes Footeux report that Tottenham are keeping tabs on FC Nantes goalkeeper and captain Alban Lafont as they look to bring in a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris – with Lafont recently replacing Lloris in the France squad.

Lloris, 35, pulled out of France’s recent fixtures in order to be available for Saturday’s North London derby against Arsenal. It saw France call up Lafont to come in over Leeds United’s Illan Meslier. He is yet to win his first France cap.

Still only 23, Lafont is already widely experienced having clocked up 264 senior appearances at club level. He came through at Toulouse, before moving to Fiorentina – but the move did not work, returning to France with Nantes.

Joining Nantes on a two-year loan in 2019, his move was made permanent for just £6million. A fee that was agreed when the two-year loan was first sanctioned. His 27 clean sheets in 120 Nantes outings has caught the eye of Spurs.

It is clear that Fabio Paratici is preparing to replace Lloris. The Spurs skipper has now been at the North London club for over a decade, clocking up 426 appearances. He has a contract with Tottenham until the summer of 2024.

But a replacement could materialise sooner than that. The Evening Standard say Jan Oblak is a target, but he might prove expensive – while Jeunes Footeux claim Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter-Stegen could also be considered by Spurs.

While Lafont is not quite the standard of Oblak or ter-Stegen, he is a whole lot younger than them – with both 29. Indeed, he is a whole 12 years younger than Lloris. Tottenham may see him as not only a younger replacement.

But a replacement for Lloris that could remain between the sticks for as long as Lloris has done. Lloris has been a success having swapped France for Spurs. Lafont shares the same agent as ex-Spurs winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.
