According to NTVSpor, Tottenham are among the favourites to sign Trabzonspor glovesman Uğurcan Çakır.

The Turkish news outlet claim that Inter Milan and LOSC Lille are also up there with Spurs in the race to sign the 25-year-old.

NTVSpor state that he is valued at €20 million (£17.3 million).

It is also said that he’s currently the most valuable asset playing in the Süper Lig, and that his value is increasing day-by-day.

Trabzonspor will not entertain any offers below the £17.3 million mark.

Interestingly, Leicester’s Head of Senior Recruitment Lee Congerton once took a look at Çakır, and his verdict was glowing.

During an interview with Karadeniz Gazete, Congerton said: “One of the best goalkeepers I have seen in my life. I was wondering who the goalkeeper was that Liverpool offered £22 million (for).”

Now, Leicester’s recruitment is usually superb, so this speaks volumes.

The Foxes have signed the likes of Çağlar Söyüncü – Çakır’s international teammate – under Congerton, as well as many more gems.

That suggests Tottenham are eyeing up a fine goalkeeper.

However, we can’t help but wonder what this news might mean for Hugo Lloris.

According to The Sun, Lloris has rejected a new contract at Spurs, plunging his future into doubt.

The Frenchman’s contract expires in 2022 (Transfermarkt), so perhaps Spurs will cash in on their No.1 and sign Çakır as his replacement.

The Trabzonspor No.1 seems like a fine shot-stopper.

Çakır has conceded just 36 goals in 38 Süper Lig outings this season.

The 7-cap Turkey international has also kept 13 clean sheets in the Turkish top-flight, which is quite impressive.

By all accounts, Çakır is a quality man to have in between the sticks.

Keep an eye on this saga, as the wheels could start moving if Lloris were to reject another contract offer, in our view.
