Tottenham have been handed a blow for reported target Anthony Martial, with the Manchester United star now keen to stay and prove himself under the club’s new manager.

According to the Daily Mail, Martial is one of many United players who have now changed their minds on leaving the club following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian manager was sacked over the weekend after a 4-1 loss to Watford.

Whilst Martial had impressed under Solskjaer, the French international’s future has been in doubt for some time. With the Daily Star reporting in the summer that the attacker want to leave, and that Spurs were keen on the winger.

However, as per the report, Tottenham were unwilling to match United’s £50m price tag for Martial. With the Red Devils eager to recoup most of the money they spent on the attacker in 2015.

Indeed, Martial is highly rated at the club and by United’s former players. With Dwight Yorke once labelling the 25-year-old as an ‘immense talent’ in a recent interview with Goal. And the forward could be given a second chance in Manchester.

The forward has hardly featured for United this season. However, a new manager could change this situation if they see any value in playing Martial over the likes of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

With the United star now set to remain in Manchester, this news is a blow for Tottenham. Who need goals in the squad as well as extra quality out wide, something Martial can provide Antonio Conte’s side.

Indeed, a move in January was always going to be unlikely. However, Solskjaer’s departure from Old Trafford has seemingly opened the door for Martial to remain at the club, and to make Spurs move on to other targets.
