CalcioMercatoWeb say Tottenham could strike a deal for Juventus defender Merih Demiral by offering a swap with Sergio Reguilon. The left-back is no longer needed at Spurs and Fabio Paratici is trying to get rid.

Antonio Conte requested the signing of Ivan Perisic on a free transfer from Inter Milan, and the 33-year-old has arrived. But it means Reguilon is now third choice in the only position he can realistically play in.

Ryan Sessegnon and Perisic are preferred to the Spaniard. It has led to reports that Paratici is ‘trying’ to offload Reguilon to the likes of Juventus. Meanwhile, Demiral is due to return to Juventus after a loan.

He sparkled on loan at Atalanta – replacing Cristian Romero last summer. But after 42 games, his move will not turn permanent. Newcastle have shown interest in the £26million-rated Turkey star.

As have Chelsea, with the same outlet reporting Juventus could swap him for Jorginho. Now, CMW say Tottenham want Demiral and a straight swap could occur between Demiral and Reguilon.

Tottenham could strike Demiral swap with Reguilon

It is a move that suits all parties – except for one reason. Tottenham have no reason to need a right-footed centre-back. They are clearly looking to sell Reguilon, but signing Demiral is not a priority right now.

The Turkey star is right-footed. But Spurs need competition for Ben Davies. In terms of right-footed centre-backs, they are plentiful. Joe Rodon, Eric Dier, Romero, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga are all options.

If Rodon or perhaps Sanchez go, then bringing Demiral to the club as competition makes sense. But Demiral might favour a move to the likes of Newcastle or Chelsea in the coming weeks.
