Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are in ‘pole position’ to sign Inter Milan target and Corentin Tolisso with Football Italia reporting that the Bayern Munich midfielder is demanding wages of £100,000-a-week.

Back in 2017, it was money – or a lack thereof, to be exact – that stopped Fabio Paratici securing Tolisso’s services when he was still in his role as Juventus’ sporting director.

The France international admitted, at the time, that he would have been tempted by the prospect of a move to a ‘very, very great club’.

But Juve simply couldn’t compete with Bayern Munich, the Bundesliga giants parting with a £40 million fee that made Tolisso their record signing.

It was a blow which brought to mind Antonio Conte’s infamous quote from all the way back in 2014, bemoaning Juventus’ inability to compete with their fellow European rivals in the transfer market.

“Well, you cannot go to eat at a 100 euro restaurant with just 10 euros in your pocket, can you?” Conte said before turning his back on the then-Serie A champions.

Paratici, however, will not have to worry about restrictive finances this time around as he looks to sign Tolisso for the second time.

The former Lyon star, after all, will be a free-agent next summer – much to the frustration of many at the Allianz Arena.

Is Paratici finally signing Corentin Tolisso for Tottenham?

It is believed that Inter Milan are rivalling Tottenham for Tolisso’s signature.

But, according to Football Italia, a club who were forced to cash in on both Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi last summer due to a precarious financial situation are unwilling to meet the midfielder’s £100,000-a-week (£5 million-a-year) wage demands.

That, simply put, is why Tottenham are in pole position to secure Tolisso’s signature.

Tolisso has already decided against extending his contract at Bayern Munich, having struggled for game time since the appointment of Julian Nagelsmann.

Bayern have already lost David Alaba on a free transfer and could see Kingsley Coman and Niklas Sule depart in similar circumstances.
