Tottenham Hotspur are close to completing a €50m (£42.7m) transfer for 23-year-old centre-back Cristian Romero.
According to Football London, the deal for the Argentina defender ‘is in its final stages’.
The transfer is expected to be made official once Atalanta sign a replacement for the outgoing Romero.
As per the report, the Bergamo-based club have already signed Italian youngster Matteo Lovato this window. However, Atalanta are looking for a second defender to come in this summer.
The Serie A side have formed a respected reputation for themselves in recent years for their astute signings.
And Atalanta will be hoping they can pull off another one with Romero set to leave just for Tottenham a year after joining the club.
As for Spurs, they will be eager to see the UEFA Champions League side to make a defensive signing sooner rather than later.
Romero has been a complicated deal to complete for Fabio Paratici, but the end appears to be in sight.
Following the transfer of Romero, the future of Harry Kane will likely be next on the agenda for Tottenham.
As reported by Sky Sports News, the Tottenham striker failed to turn up for pre-season training. Kane was expected to return to the club on Monday following England’s run to the Euro 2020 final.
Indeed, the striker is eager on a move to Manchester City this summer. And whilst Tottenham would likely receive a Premier League record fee for the attacker, Daniel Levy is eager to retain the club’s star player.
