Reports claimed Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United were both keen on signing the Liverpool forward.

Premier League sides Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United look set to miss out on the signing of Liverpool forward Divock Origi, according to The Guardian (17:02).

The pair had been linked with moves for Origi, who it is claimed was being lined up for a move to Monaco as a makeweight in Liverpool’s deal for Thomas Lemar. But the Ligue 1 side’s refusal to sell the Frenchman has prompted Jurgen Klopp’s side to put their player back on the market.

Nevertheless, Liverpool are said to prefer to send Origi to a European club, and would not consider a loan deal with ‘a Premier League rival such as Tottenham’, according to The Guardian.

Instead, is claimed that Wolfsburg are now favourites for the Belgian’s signature, with the Bundesliga side prepared to pay ‘a sizeable loan fee’ to take him on a season-long deal.

The Daily Mail reported earlier on Wednesday that Tottenham were focusing their attention on signing Origi, along with Paris Saint-Germain right-back Serge Aurier.

But it would appear as through Spurs will have to look elsewhere if they are to recruit another forward ahead of tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.

And the same could go for Newcastle, who are considering Fulham’s £15 million offer for Dwight Gayle, according to Sky Sports (08:40).

The Guardian reported on Tuesday that Newcastle are willing to sell Gayle for around £18 million, but only if they can find a replacement in time.
