Wolverhampton Wanderers are believed to have enquired about signing Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle, The Express & Star reports. But according to Sky Sports (08:40), Newcastle are currently considering a £15 million offer from Wolves’ Championship rivals Fulham.

It is claimed the Magpies are looking for nearer £20 million for Gayle, who scored 23 goals from 26 starts en route to the second tier title last season.

The Express & Star reports that ‘due to a number of variables’, including the 26-year-old’s high wages, interest from other clubs and Newcastle needing to sign a replacement first, a move to Wolves is unlikely anyway.

The report adds that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who sold Nouha Dicko to Hull City on Tuesday, could re-ignite their interest in Jordan Hugill if other targets don’t come off, after the striker submitted a transfer request at Preston North End.

But it is claimed there are no offers currently on the table for respective Porto and Sheffield Wednesday players Tiquinho Soares and Jordan Rhodes.

Meanwhile, Fulham, who have money to spend after selling Sone Aluko to Reading on Tuesday, have also been linked with moves for rumoured Newcastle target, Jota, and Rhodes’ teammate Fernando Forestieri by The Sun.

Jota is expected to leave Brentford with his contract up at the end of the season, while Forestieri, who played under Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic at Watford, has started only one of Wednesday’s league matches this season due to alleged indiscipline.
