Aston Villa will try and bring Gary McAllister and Michael Beale in alongside Steven Gerrard if they are able to land the Rangers boss, the Telegraph report

More incomings at Aston Villa?

Villa have made Gerrard their number one choice to take over from Dean Smith and he is said to be keen to take the role.

Their impending talks with the Rangers boss are expected to be successful and Villa are happy to pay the release clause to land the 41-year-old manager.

If Gerrard does arrive he is not the only Rangers staff member who is wanted though.

Aston Villa are keen to allow Gerrard to bring his own staff with him and as such MacAllister and Beale both are said to be wanted.

MacAllister has been crucial for Gerrard at Ibrox, due to his experience.

He was quickly appointed as his assistant at Rangers and the pair have worked together well on the training ground.

‘Elite’ level coach

Beale, meanwhile, was hand picked by Gerrard after working with him at Liverpool.

The 41-year-old is a more inexperienced coach than MacAllister at first-team level, but he also has been widely credited for the work he has done up in Scotland.

Indeed, Greg Stewart called Beale an ‘elite’ coach after working with him (Sunday Mail).

Aston Villa would still be taking a risk by giving Gerrard the reins, though.

While his profile is undoubtedly higher than Smith’s he has never worked in the Premier League before and remains a relative rookie in managerial terms.

With Villa sitting just above the drop zone they are under pressure to ensure that they get the appointment correct, too.

The club are yet to really show their top form since losing Jack Grealish in the summer, despite a fairly heavy spend.

And Gerrard will inherit an Aston Villa squad which is likely to be low on confidence if he does take charge in the coming days.
