Pearson was suspended by the Rams on Tuesday, which could open the door to a return for the former Newcastle United head coach.

According to the Telegraph, Steve McClaren’s name ‘is understood to have been discussed’ as a potential successor to Nigel Pearson at Derby County.

The Telegraph claims that Pearson, who took charge at the iPro Stadium in May, is unlikely to return following a ‘heated confrontation’ with chairman Mel Morris on Monday.
And that could open the door to a sensational return for former Newcastle United head coach McClaren, who was sacked by Derby only 16 months ago.
The report adds that McClaren’s style of football ‘still has support’ in the iPro Stadium boardroom, despite him leading the Rams to eighth in his final season at the club and his subsequent failures in the north east.

The 55-year-old, who has also managed FC Twente, Wolfsburg and Middlesbrough as well as the England national team, was later sacked by Newcastle after only nine months at the helm, with the Magpies en route to the Championship.
As well as McClaren, the report lists former Hull City boss Steve Bruce as another possible candidate.
