Leeds United would have needed to pay twice as much for Javi Galan had Huesca retained their La Liga status, with ABC de Sevilla claiming the highly rated left-back is available now for just £3.5 million.

Is a player nicknamed ‘Rooney’ – due to an apparent resemblance to a certain Manchester United legend – set to become the new left-sided full-back Leeds have been looking for since doubts began to emerge about the future of madcap Macedonian Gjanni Alioski at Elland Road?

The late-blooming Galan certainly feels like a more realistic target than the likes of Miguel Gutierrez and Marcelo. Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep both left-backs, old and new, at Real Madrid next season.

And, with a price tag of just £3.5 million, Galan is also the most affordable.

Could Galan replace Alioski at Leeds United?

However, if you’re wondering why Galan is so cheap, fret not.

That £3.5 million fee is merely a release clause in his contract, one that sprang into life once Huesca dropped out of La Liga on the final day of last season.

ABC de Sevilla points out that, had a Huesca side inspired by Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Rafa Mir, avoided an immediate return to La Liga 2, Galan would have cost twice as much.

That £7 million clause was halved once relegation was confirmed.

As you may have guessed given where the rumours are originating from, Spanish giants Sevilla are interested in Galan too.

As are a number of other Premier League clubs, although their identity remains a mystery at the moment.

It is believed Leeds may actually be willing to pay more than £3.5 million for Galan too, such is their admiration for a man who scored a stunning volley against none other than Real Madrid as recently as February.
