Tottenham could ship off Matt Doherty in the January transfer window after struggling to make an impact under Antonio Conte.

According to the Athletic, Spurs are ‘interested’ in potentially selling the Republic of Ireland international.

Doherty has hardly featured for Tottenham since the arrival of Conte, with the former Wolves star playing just three games for the Italian, two of which were substitute appearances.

Indeed, playing time overall has been hard for Doherty, who under former manager Nuno Espirito Santo made just one Premier League appearance.

Brazilian right-back Emerson Royal was signed on deadline day, with Japhet Tanganga also playing in the position.

Doherty was signed by Jose Mourinho in 2020 for a reported fee of £15m. However, despite impressing for Wolves in their first two years back in the Premier League, the 29-year-old has struggled to adapt to life in north London.

Doherty simply has to leave Spurs in January to save career

Performances have been lacklustre and form has been hard to come by, which explains why Spurs went big in the summer to improve the right-back position as well as Tanganga filling in from time to time.

With minutes hard to come by and Spurs eager to move the defender on, it appears that Doherty’s time with the club is already over just a year after joining from Wolves.
