According to TSN Sports, Tottenham have enquired about Jonathan David, a forward who Arsenal have monitored for over three years.

What’s the story?

Well, it was The Athletic who made that claim about Arsenal, although Tottenham could be about to steal the 22-year-old from under their nose.

TSN Sports believe Spurs have asked Lille about the 24-cap Canada international’s immediate future, as have Chelsea and Barcelona.

At the moment, David – who has been likened to Luis Suarez – is not believed to be pushing to leave Lille, where he is playing the best football of his career.

Alongside Wissam Ben Yedder, he sits atop the Ligue 1 scoring charts having netted 12 goals in 20 appearances so far this season.

However, TSN Sports believe a summer move is looking increasingly likely, with his agent – Nick Mavromaras – under the impression his client would “benefit” from it.

However, Mavromaras also told TSN Sports that he and David will ask those who are interested about their footballing project, and future plans.

Arsenal hold advantage over Tottenham

While TSN Sports claim Arsenal are yet to enquire like their north London rivals have, we feel they hold the advantage nonetheless.

Why? Well, if Mavromaras were to ask Spurs and the Gunners about their long-term project, we believe Arsenal would have a better answer.

Under Mikel Arteta, there is a clear philosophy to the playing style, while the culture of the club is to trust youngsters and develop them.

Statistically, Arsenal are the youngest side in the Premier League this season, where the likes of 20-year-old Bukayo Saka and 21-year-old Emile Smith Rowe are shining.

With all due respect, Tottenham seem to be winging it – the fact they’ve already had two managers this season pretty much sums it up.

José Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte have all held the reins at Spurs in the last 18 months, which surely won’t please Mavromaras and David.

Add in the fact that Arsenal have tracked the wonderkid for three years, and we feel the Gunners are best placed to sign him.
