According to CmJornal, Tottenham Hotspur are considering signing Pedro Porro via an interesting method.

It’s been reported widely that Spurs have held an interest in Porro for quite some time. Fabrizio Romano has stated himself that the north London club have scouted him, while Alasdair Gold says that Fabio Paratici is a fan.

With January on the horizon, Spurs are weighing up how they can sign the ‘different class’ defender, and they’re now considering using their Marcus Edwards sell-on clause to bring Porro into the club.

Indeed, according to this report, Spurs are considering waiving their rights to receiving a 50 per cent sell-on fee for Edwards in order to receive a discount on Porro.

Of course, this all depends on how much value Sporting actually place on Edwards compared to Porro.

This could easily work in Spurs’ favour. It helps them in terms of Financial Fair Play and allows them to bolster a problem position within their squad.

However, this could also backfire massively.

Let’s not forget, Edwards is an incredibly talented player in his own right, being tipped to win the Ballon d’Or at one point, and if he keeps up the form he has been showing for Sporting, he could end up moving for big money.

The Portuguese League has become one of the most eye-catching leagues in Europe in recent years, and there are often huge money transfers in the pipeline for players who shine for clubs such as Sporting, Porto and Benfica.

The likes of Darwin Nunez, Bruno Fernandes and Luis Diaz have all moved for huge fees, and Spurs would be wise to take a slice of that pie when the time comes for Edwards to eventually move on.

This is a transfer ploy that Spurs need to think through very carefully, because they’re sitting on something of a golden nest egg with Edwards’ sell-on clause.
