Enzo Fernandez is undoubtedly one of the hottest properties in world football right now.

The World Cup’s Young Player of the Tournament has seen his stock rise drastically over the past six weeks, and now, it looks like a big move could be on the horizon.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked, and now, the rumour mill has been sent into overdrive as Benfica are seemingly looking for a replacement for the player.

Indeed, according to reputable South American journalist, Bruno Andrade, Benfica are currently looking for a player to replace Fernandez, and they have their eye on another player in Argentine.

The reporter states that the Portuguese giants are looking at Maximo Perrone as one potential option, and that will have a knock-on effect at another Premier League club – Newcastle United.

The Magpies themselves have been strongly linked with the ‘spectacular’ young midfielder, but Benfica’s interest will complicate things.

Think about it, Perrone will have seen the development of Fernandez at Benfica and will be very keen to emulate the World Cup winner. Meanwhile, with all due respect, as a young South American a move to Lisbon is much more attractive than a move to Tyneside.

Of course, this will hinge on whether or not Fernandez does actually move, but with Liverpool reportedly very keen to strike a deal for the midfield maestro, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if the young star ended up at Anfield before the end of next month.

Newcastle ought to hope that the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea fail to get their hands on Fernandez, because their move for Perrone could easily be scuppered by Fernandez getting a big move.

These situations are certainly worth keeping an eye on as we head into January.
