Liverpool want Enzo Fernandez and reports in Portugal suggest that a huge €97million (£85million) deal is teed up for the end of the season.
The Reds are pushing for major midfield reinforcements in 2023 with Jurgen Klopp’s engine room needing something of an overhaul.
It looked like Borussia Dortmund sensation Jude Bellingham would be Liverpool’s top target for that role.
Yet it now seems that Liverpool are aggressively targeting a deal for Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
Bola Na Rede in Portugal report that there is an agreement in place between Fernandez’s agent and Liverpool with a deal worth €97million (£85million) allegedly sorted for the summer.
Benfica seemingly don’t want to lose Fernandez in January so are therefore pushing the deal back to the summer.
Maybe Liverpool will somehow find the cash to sign both Fernandez and Bellingham, but it certainly feels like one or the other right now.

Liverpool coach Lijnders hails Enzo Fernandez
Fernandez made a huge impact for Argentina at the World Cup.
After failing to start the first two games, Fernandez made his presence felt with a beautiful goal to seal a 2-0 win over Mexico.
Fernandez nailed down a starting spot after that goal and was instrumental in Argentina winning the World Cup.
Fernandez was presented with the Young Player of the Tournament award after Argentina’s final win over France.
This is all just adding to the hype over Fernandez, who has been sensational for Benfica ever since joining from River Plate over the summer.
The timing of these claims from Bola Na Rede is interesting because Fernandez received praise from Liverpool assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders earlier today.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Lijnders highlighted that Fernandez and Alexis Mac Allister provided perfect balance with Rodrigo De Paul in midfield.
Lijnders then talked about Lionel Messi and how he started most of Argentina’s attacks, but then added in Fernandez as another player who contributed to that side of the game.
It’s clear that Liverpool are in some was watching and tracking Fernandez, and the Reds may well be pressing ahead with a huge 2023 deal.
