Burnley, who are said to have missed out on the signing of Olarenwaju Kayode to Manchester City, are the current bookies favourites to sign the Southampton player.
Southampton striker Shane Long is wanted by Burnley, The Mirror reports on page 48 of its printed edition on Tuesday.
Burnley are looking to sign a replacement for Andre Gray, who was sold to Watford for £18 million last week, and have reportedly seen a £12 million approach turned down for Leeds United’s Chris Wood.

According to The Daily Mail, the Clarets are planning a renewed bid of £20 million for Wood, but Long could be a cheaper alternative.
The 30-year-old, who started 19 times across four competitions last term, was on the bench for Southampton’s season opener against Swansea City on Saturday.
And he could face a battle to break into Mauricio Pellegrino’s plans, with Manolo Gabbiadini, Charlie Austin and Sam Gallagher also vying for places in his position.
Meanwhile, Burnley, whose odds of signing Long have dropped to as short as 10/11 with Sky Bet, are set to miss out on the signing of Austria Wien striker Olarenwaju Kayode to Manchester City, The Sun reports on page 54 of its printed edition on Tuesday.

Both Sean Dyche’s side an Newcastle United are said to have been interested in the 24-year-old Nigerian, who it is claimed will be loaned to Girona once his £3.5 million transfer is rubber stamped.
