Newcastle United did not inform their players that the takeover by a Saudi-led consortium was back on before reports emerged of an imminent announcement, per Chronicle Live.
The St James’ Park hierarchy have kept Steve Bruce’s squad in the lurch amid the potential change in ownership. Players not on international duty arrived at Darsley Park for training as normal on Thursday with no communication from decision-makers.
Bruce put his players through their paces at Benton as he seeks a change in fortunes at the club. The Toon entered the international break inside the Premier League relegation zone, having failed to win any of their fixtures. Losing four and drawing three games so far.

Newcastle could end the international break with a very different outlook for the future if the takeover goes through. The Magpies could also name a new Chairman and board to begin the post-Mike Ashley era on Tyneside.
Chronicle Live claim the Public Investment Fund’s Yasir Al-Rumayyan will take up the role of Non-Executive Chairman. Amanda Staveley will also take the role of Director, as part of the consortium alongside PIF and the Reuben brothers.
David Reuben will also take a Non-Executive Director title, as part of the boardroom set-up the Premier League wanted clarifying before sanctioning any takeover. The consortium are yet to decide who will fill the CEO role that Lee Charnley has held since 2014.

Newcastle players left in lurch over Saudi takeover
Newcastle players may not appreciate that they have been left in the lurch over the Saudi-led takeover. Those in the final years of their contracts or have struggled for form so far this season may now question what futures they have at St James’ Park.
A new ownership structure may see several on-field changes in upcoming transfer windows as new investment is put to use. But Newcastle’s current hierarchy did not tell their players that a Saudi-led takeover could be imminent. Instead, they learnt of the news in the media.
Reports by Sky Sports claim all parties feel they can make an announcement on Thursday. A £300m sale of the club by Ashley to PIF, Staveley and the Reuben brothers is in the final stages. A few hiccups meant the takeover was not finalised on Wednesday night as hoped.
