Newcastle United’s takeover finally looks like being completed – and that means there could be a spending spree on the horizon.

The Mirror report that Newcastle’s Saudi Arabian takeover is set to go through after a number of hurdles were cleared.

The Public Investment Fund takeover bid started 18 months ago, but no agreement was reached.

It now seems that the deal is imminent, sparking a new era at St James’ Park.

That report also claims that Newcastle will be given £250million to spend on new signings.

Newcastle were linked with a number of moves when the takeover was first rumoured. Here are five pursuits Newcastle can now resurrect with the takeover back on…

Antero Henrique

Fans will obviously want new signings on the pitch, but adding a sporting director will likely be a key appointment.

The Daily Mail reported in June 2020 that PIF wanted Antero Henrique in the job. Formerly of Porto and Paris Saint-Germain, Henrique has fared well in the transfer market throughout his career.

Currently out of work, Henrique could be a vital appointment for PIF having shown interest last year.

Lucas Hernandez

In May of last year, Bild reported that PIF had targeted a move for Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez.

Bayern paid £72million to sign Hernandez from Atletico Madrid, and Newcastle would have to pay big cash to land him now.

The 25-year-old can play at left back or centre back and has a World Cup win on his CV with France.

Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona playmaker Coutinho has struggled since a 2018 move from Liverpool, and Barca would surely love to sell.

PIF wanted Coutinho as a big-name addition to start their project. Guillem Balague even noted that Coutinho’s representatives expected a bid from the Magpies.

It would make sense for PIF to go for Coutinho now, even if he isn’t quite the player he was at Liverpool.

Gareth Bale

The Chronicle reported that Bale was one target had the takeover gone through, alongside now-Manchester City duo Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake.

Bale ended up on loan at Tottenham, but didn’t do quite enough to win an extension to his loan.

Real Madrid would likely want to move Bale on if possible, and the Welshman could be a big-name capture for PIF if they’re still keen.

Victor Osimhen

Another player named in that Chronicle report was striker Victor Osimhen, who was thriving for Lille at the time.

Newcastle wanted the Nigerian, but he ended up joining Napoli instead as Newcastle’s takeover fell through.

The 22-year-old is on fire for Napoli this season’ bagging seven goals in eight appearances across all competitions.

Osimhen is quick, deadly and full of potential, If Newcastle can resurrect a move, they should absolutely go for it.
