Newcastle are reportedly close to completing a club-record move to sign Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak with the player said to be on Tyneside – and the i report that the player himself is stunned at the speed of Newcastle’s work.
Isak, 22, has been a player constantly linked with the Premier League this summer. Arsenal were linked, before signing Gabriel Jesus. Now, the Sweden international looks set to join Newcastle, with personal terms not seen as an issue.
Now, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie says Newcastle are hoping to complete a deal before the end of the week. A deal of £58million has been agreed with Sociedad, for a player that has scored 44 goals in 132 appearances.
Now, the i report that Newcastle’s speed to secure a deal for Isak has shocked the player himself – and his Sociedad teammates. Perhaps getting a deal done quickly allows Sociedad more time to spend the cash they are receiving.

Indeed, the report even says that Isak was expecting to remain at Sociedad for another season on Sunday. By Monday, Newcastle had sent an entourage to Spain to strike a deal for Isak – including Dan Ashworth and Steve Nickson.
Isak stunned by Newcastle speed in getting £58m deal done
It is a real statement of intent. Since Newcastle’s owners have come in, the marquee signings include Kieran Trippier, an England regular. Bruno Guimaraes, a Brazil international for £40million, and highly-rated Sven Botman for similar.
But Isak is a different kettle of fish. He is a player that not only surpasses the Bruno and Botman fees. But it smashes it, with £18million more just up front. Sell-on clauses and add-ons are included. Isak is a huge signing for Newcastle.
Now, and for the future. At 22, he is already a well-proven player for club and country. He is going to be a sensational signing, improving Eddie Howe’s side now – but is also going to get loads better. A really, really good signing.
