Yesterday, The Times revealed that Arsenal were closing in on a £50m deal to sign Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.
It was said that the Brazil international is keen to reunite with Mikel Arteta, after working with the Spaniard during his days as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at the Etihad Stadium.
So, Jesus is keen, and Arsenal are expected to meet Manchester City’s £50m asking price, so what’s the hold up?
Well, an update from the Evening Standard could explain the delay.
What’s the story?
Interestingly, the Evening Standard believe the structure of the payment is currently being discussed between the Gunners and the Citizens.
As aforesaid, Manchester City want £50m, but Arsenal – while happy to spend that amount – do not want to pay that sum upfront all in one payment.
Arsenal are hoping that Manchester City agree to include add-ons in the deal, with further talks set to take place in the coming days.

Any deal will see Guardiola land a profit on the £27m he gave to Palmeiras for the South American’s signature back in 2016.
However, the Spaniard doesn’t need to sign a replacement, as Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez will be part of his attack next season.
Gabriel Jesus is a bargain for Arsenal
Any deal worth £50m usually isn’t considered to be much of a bargain, although it is a very good price for Arsenal in this sense.
For their money, the Gunners will be getting a four-time Premier League winner, who has scored 58 goals in England’s top-flight.

Jesus is also just 25, so Arsenal are buying a striker whose best years are still ahead of him.
Furthermore, the Brazilian is a versatile forward capable of playing anywhere across the frontline, which gives Arteta plenty of flexibility with his selections.
Hopefully, Arsenal and Manchester City can come to an agreement when further talks take place.
