Football website 90Min claim Tottenham are keen on signing Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak – but Atleti will want a replacement before they sell their superstar stopper, and have identified three options including David De Gea.

Oblak, 29, is considered one of the best goalkeepers in world football as things stand. But the Evening Standard said on Thursday that Spurs are planning for life without current no.1, and captain, Hugo Lloris. His contract ends in 2024.

They could find that they have competition from Manchester United for Oblak. But Atletico Madrid will only decide to cash in on the 52-time Slovenia international, if they have a replacement in beforehand. Three have been shortlisted.

Indeed, all three come from the Premier League. The first is an intriguing one, in De Gea. Obviously a former Atletico Madrid player, he could swap with Oblak to make a return to Diego Simeone’s side. His contract ends in June.

However, Atletico Madrid are not solely focusing on De Gea. Indeed, they are also said to be pursuing moves for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya and Brighton stopper Robert Sanchez. But De Gea is likely to be the favourite.

Tottenham keen on ‘unsettled’ Oblak: De Gea his replacement?

Now said to be ‘unsettled’, it is apparent that Oblak could leave Atletico if Tottenham or United come calling. De Gea makes sense as his replacement. A player that will have Atleti in his heart, and available on a free transfer.

So, it might be that De Gea actually helps United buy his replacement – or, helps Tottenham sign the £253,000-a-week goalkeeper. One thing is for sure, if he does move to the Premier League, and club would be pulling off a major coup.

A player that Kieran Trippier said is one of the best in the world, and “unbelievable in the Premier League”.
