A report in the Irish Sun suggests sacking Frank de Boer will cost Crystal Palace £2 million.

De Boer spent 77 days in charge of the Eagles, whose patience ran out on Monday after four defeats from four in this season’s Premier League.

The Dutchman had signed a three-year deal at Selhurst Park, said to be worth £6 million.

But lucky for Palace, it is claimed they inserted a clause which ensured they would only have to pay De Boer a year of his salary if they got rid of him early.

According to the Daily Mail, incoming Eagles boss Roy Hodgson will earn half-a-million-pounds more per year than his predecessor – plus a £1 million bonus for keeping the club up this season – although his deal will only run until 2019.

But at least by appointing Hodgson – unemployed since resigning as England manager 14 months ago – Palace will not have to pay any additional fees.

The 70-year-old Croydon native played for his local side at youth level.
