Roy Hodgson is expected to be announced as the new Crystal Palace manager imminently, replacing Frank de Boer after he was sacked on Monday (September 11).
De Boer lasted just four matches in the Eagles dugout, the fewest games for a permanent boss in Premier League history.

Although the side have had a poor start to the new season, currently sitting bottom of the table with no points as one of only two teams to have lost all of their matches so far, this still seems a little pessimistic.
The board at Selhurst Park have already come in for plenty of criticism for the way they handled the De Boer situation, handing the Dutchman a three-year deal worth £2m and citing long-term change, but then giving him no time to implement that.

Now they have effectively revealed their expectations for a campaign of struggle with this relegation clause, almost admitting that they are unconvinced the players are good enough.
This is despite the fact De Boer was not adequately backed in the transfer market over the summer, with only Arsenal and Southampton signing fewer than their four new faces – two of which were on loan in Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Timothy Fosu-Mensah.
Rather than looking to improve on the 41 points and 14th place finish from last term, the bar is being set lower with 17th or above considered a success and earning Hodgson a tidy £1m in the process.
