Real Sociedad are reportedly interested in Olympique Lyonnais star Moussa Dembele as a replacement for Alexander Isak, who is on the verge of signing for Newcastle United in a club-record deal.
According to Marca, the La Liga side have already identified the French striker as an option to replace Isak, with the Guardian reporting that Newcastle will sign the Swedish international in a deal that could cost as much as £63m, much to the dismay of Arsenal, who have been linked with both Dembele and the Sociedad superstar.
The Gunners have been reportedly tracking the Lyon talisman this summer, whilst Isak was one of the many strikers Arsenal were interested in the January transfer window as Mikel Arteta embarked on an epic but ultimately failed journey to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with Newcastle now signing the 22-year-old six months later.
With Arsenal landing Gabriel Jesus this summer for a reported £45m, there’s little jealously amongst supporters over Newcastle signing Isak given how impressive the Brazilian international has been since arriving in north London, with a similar sentiment given over Sociedad’s interest in Dembele.
The former Celtic superstar has been linked to Arsenal for what feels like years, yet it appears that this summer could be the one where the book is finally closed on Dembele and the Gunners should Sociedad manage to sign the forward in the coming days.
Indeed, whilst the deal for Isak is yet to be finalised and announced, Sociedad will no doubt be working behind the scenes to bring in a replacement as quickly as possible, and Dembele could be the perfect signing for the Basque giants should Lyon sanction a sale in the next few days.

Sociedad are one of the best-run clubs in all of Spain, and whilst the sale of Isak will sting given the impact the striker has had on the club in recent years, replacing the Swede with a player like Dembele is great business from the La Liga side.
After all, Dembele, once labelled as ‘brilliant’ by Kieran Tierney, is hitting the prime of his career, and whilst his loan spell at Atletico Madrid was nothing to write home about, having some experience in Spain is ideal for a club like Sociedad, who want a replacement for Isak who fit effortlessly into the squad, something the Arsenal target could do if a deal is compelted.
