In April, reports from Spain indicated that Arsenal had held talks over bringing Luka Jovic to North London this summer.
With Alexandre Lacazette likely to leave the Gunners on a Bosman and Eddie Nketiah potentially following him, strikers will be the order of the day for Arsenal when the summer window opens for business.
Marca reported last month that the Emirates Stadium outfit had held talks regarding the Real Madrid hitman.
And there could be a boost for Mikel Arteta and Edu on this front.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Bernabeu club have decided to sell Jovic this summer after failing to ‘acclimatise’ to Spanish football following a £50 million transfer in 2019 [BBC Sport].
The report from Spain adds that Carlo Ancelotti is unlikely to ever play the Serbia international again, adding to the doubt that he’ll be in Madrid long term.
Good signing for Arsenal?
Honestly, probably not.
There’s no doubt Arsenal need to bolster their number nines this summer, even if Nketiah winds up staying with Arteta’s squad beyond the transfer window.
But Gabriel Jesus – that’s the calibre of striker Arteta and Edu should be focusing on.
Even if the Manchester City marksman comes in, Arsenal will be adding at least one other forward – and it has to be a better option than Jovic.
Three goals in 35 league appearances for Real demonstrates his difficulties in Spain and it doesn’t bode well that he’ll be able to cope with Premier League football.
For the money Real would want, the Gunners are better off finding another England-proven option, like Jesus.
