Arsenal have reportedly held talks with Real Madrid over the potential signing of Luka Jovic, with the Serbian international set to leave the La Liga giants for good this summer.

According to Marca, the Gunners have been in informal discussions with the attacker for some months, with Arsenal linked with Jovic in January and the north London club heading into the summer looking to sign a striker as their main priority.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both set to leave Arsenal at the end of their contracts, which both expire this summer, meaning Mikel Arteta could sign multiple forwards to rebuild the attacking line for the Gunners.

And Jovic could be an option for Arsenal. The striker joined Madrid in 2019 for a reported £50m according to BBC Sport, yet the former Eintracht Frankfurt star has failed to live up to expectations in the Spanish capital.

Moreover, off the field problems have caused Jovic to play next-to-no football this season under Carlo Ancelotti, with the 24-year-old making just two starts, with Jovic scoring one goal in all competitions.

Hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by former Frankfurt teammate Filip Kostic, the talent is there in Jovic, yet moving to Madrid has so far been a disastrous career move for the striker, and if Arsenal can get a cheap deal, the Serbian could be an outstanding signing for the Gunners.

Arteta has proven in his time as Arsenal manager to be a coach who knows how to get the best out of players, with the likes of Lacazette, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli all flourishing and evolving under the Basque coach, and Jovic could receive a similar experience if Madrid sells him to the Gunners.

Indeed, we have seen during his time with Frankfurt just how incredible Jovic can be in the right environment and system, and Arteta could transform the 24-year-old into an outstanding striker if given the time to improve change and improve his game.
