Rangers are looking to pull off a major coup by signing Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman, according to Voetbal International.
The Gers do have a number of midfielders right now in Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo, Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack, whilst Nnamdi Ofoborh is arriving on a free transfer this summer.
Still, with Bongani Zungu unlikely to be kept when his loan from Amiens comes to an end, Steven Gerrard and co could look to land another midfielder.
It’s now stated that Rangers are following Veerman closely, in the hope of luring him to Ibrox in an ambitious summer move.
Southampton – Ross Wilson’s former club – have tracked Veerman closely, whilst Reims, Atalanta and PSV Eindhoven are also interested in signing Veerman, with the midfielder thought to prefer staying in the Netherlands.
Veerman, 22, has been a star for Heerenveen since joining from hometown club Volendam in 2019, and has been in sensational form this season with nine goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

Primarily a deep-lying playmaker who sits in front of the back four, Veerman can control the game with his impressive technical ability, and he has shown that he can also make an impact going forward.
Ex-Ajax ace Kenneth Perez told Fox Sports in 2020 that he thinks Veerman will ‘reach the top’ of the game, meaning he could be a stunning capture for Rangers.
He certainly wouldn’t come cheap, but he represents an exciting summer target for Rangers, just days after De Gelderlander suggested they want another Eredivisie star in Vitesse Arnhem’s Danilho Doekhi.
