Rangers have allegedly offered a deal to Danilho Doekhi – but they face a real battle to sign the Vitesse Arnhem centre back.

De Gelderlander report that Rangers want to give Doekhi a three-year deal, but he still have one more year left on his Vitesse deal, meaning the Dutch side can still demand a fee.

The Telegraph note that Newcastle United and Norwich City are also keen on Doekhi, with the 22-year-old becoming a wanted man ahead of the summer transfer window.

Formerly of Ajax and the nephew of ex-Chelsea defender Winston Bogarde, Doekhi is fast becoming one of the Eredivisie’s top young centre backs.

This week, Feyenoord analyst Mikos Gouka has been quoted as saying that Feyenoord must sign Rotterdam-born Doekhi, believing that he would only cost up to €2.5million (£2.2million).

Vitesse boss Thomas Letsch has already laid out what he thinks the future holds for Doekhi, telling Voetbal International earlier this month that he thinks joining Feyenoord makes ‘no sense’ because he can go to a ‘big club’.

A little harsh on Feyenoord maybe, but Letsch recommends a move to Germany or England, meaning that Newcastle could leapfrog Rangers in the race if Doekhi listens to his manager.

They can offer Premier League football, with Letsch seemingly not having a move to Scotland in mind for his star defender.

Steven Gerrard is a major pull though, and given that Rangers won the Scottish Premiership title this season and are into next season’s Champions League, do not rule the Gers out of the race for Doekhi despite his manager’s comments.
