Rangers are reportedly set to discuss a new contract with Barrie McKay.
According to the Daily Mail, Rangers intend to open talks with winger Barrie McKay about a new contract with the club after interest from RB Leipzig.
McKay, 22, has been with Rangers for almost six years having arrived from Kilmarnock in the summer of 2011, and after a quiet first four years with the club, he really emerged as a star following Mark Warburton’s appointment in 2015.

Warburton has certainly got the best out of McKay, as he hit nine goals in 48 games last season to not only help Rangers win promotion to the Scottish Premiership, but also reach the Scottish Cup final.
The wide man – who already has one Scotland cap to his name – has notched three goals in 30 appearances, and whilst that isn’t quite as impressive as his record from last season, his recent displays have seen him get back to somewhere near his best again.

Now, the Daily Mail report that Rangers are set to open talks with McKay over a new contract, in order to fend off interest in the player’s signature ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Daily Record recently claimed that German side RB Leipzig – who already have one Scottish winger in their ranks with Oliver Burke – are keen on McKay, with suggestions of a £6million move from the Bundesliga high-flyers.
With the January transfer window now over, McKay is at least staying at Ibrox until the end of the season, but Rangers are now planning talks with the winger this week in order to extend his stay in Glasgow.

If the Scot continues to develop and impress under Warburton, then it won’t just be Leipzig keen on signing McKay, but Premier League clubs will cast admiring glances – and it’s vital that Rangers tie him down to a new and improved contract, even if only to protect his value on the transfer market.
