Michael Gorman, the agent of Alfredo Morelos, is due in the UK this week, amid interest in the Rangers striker Steven Gerrard is eager keep at Ibrox, according to the Daily Record.

Gerrard views Morelos as a pivotal part of his Rangers squad after winning the Premiership title last season. The Colombian scored 12 goals and five assists to help achieve an unassailable lead at the top of the standings.

Morelos also struck five goals and penned eight assists in the Europa League as the Gers reached the Last 16. And Gerrard hopes the 25-year-old will still be an Ibrox star when the Glasgow giants return to the Champions League.

Gorman is due in the UK within days, however, and his arrival could change the picture for Morelos at Rangers. The striker’s agent has been in Portugal thrashing out a deal for fellow Colombia international Yerson Mosquera to join Wolves.

Portuguese powerhouse Porto, meanwhile, are showing an interest in raiding Rangers for Morelos. The Liga NOS outfit have the forward on their shortlist of summer targets, but are yet to approach the Gers.

And, thus, Porto have not yet made a bid for Morelos, who Antena1 claim has already agreed to personal terms. Duncan Castle also claimed the Estadio do Dragao natives had bid €12m (£10.5m), for the forward who cost Rangers £1m.

Gorman’s presence in the UK could now see the chances of Morelos leaving Rangers for Porto grow significantly. Gers chief Ross Wilson is not opposed to selling the £33,000-per-week forward, providing his asking price is met. And he will hold firm at that position.

Gerrard will fight to keep Morelos at Rangers

Gerrard will be glad Porto have not bid for Morelos, and will fight to keep him at Rangers should they. And rightly so. The 11-cap international is a leading part of his plans and will be expected to fire the Gers into the Champions League proper when they begin the qualifiers.

A fee in the region of £10m is also an insult to Morelos’ ability and record in front of the goal. So, it will be likely that Wilson would have rejected the sum Castle claimed, if Porto had put it forward.

Gerrard also lauds Morelos as a ‘top-class’ player, not just a top-class goalscorer, via the Gers’ website. And a player like that, who offers so much, would be hard to replace.
