Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara is nearing a new contract with the Scottish giants after a summer of speculation.

According to the Athletic, the Finnish international is still eager on a move to the Premier League. However, the midfielder and Rangers have reached a compromise which will see Kamara pen a deal with the Ibrox club.

The likes of Newcastle United and Watford were eager on signing the Euro 2020 star this window.

However, with Kamara key to Steven Gerrard’s plans and his current deal lasting until 2023, a new contract will increase Rangers’ security for the midfielder.

Indeed, this move from Rangers is a big sign of intent from the Glasgow side, who will be hoping to make the group stages of the UEFA Champions League this summer.

Gerrard’s men are currently 2-1 down against Swedish side Malmo. Kamara did not feature in the first leg and his presence was felt throughout the match.

After all, the former Dundee star is one of the club’s most important players and a key reason why Rangers stormed the Scottish Premiership last campaign.

Whilst the Gers have accepted that Kamara won’t be at the club for long, the Scandinavian-born midfielder must remain with Rangers for the short-term future.

Gerrard will be looking to retain the SPL title as well as add more silverware to the Rangers trophy cabinet. And with Kamara in the side for the next few seasons, that goal will be a lot more achievable for the young English manager.
