Giovanni van Bronckhorst will ask Ross Wilson to give him key assurances before he would accept any offer to replace Steven Gerrard as Rangers manager, as per the Daily Record.

The Ibrox hierarchy are set to speak with the Gers hero over replacing Gerrard in their now-vacant hot seat.

Van Bronckhorst is the front runner for the job and has already declared his interest in taking charge at Rangers.

But Van Bronckhorst will only replace now-Aston Villa manager Gerrard at Ibrox if he feels every factor is right.

The Dutchman wants Gers Sporting Director Wilson to offer certain guarantees over issues like his backroom team and financial backing.

Van Bronckhorst will be particularly adamant on having the backing to strengthen the squad if they must sell key players.

The Ibrox outfit recently announced debts of around £23.5m, as coronavirus put a major dent in the Premiership title-holders’ finances.

Additionally, Van Bronckhorst may bring Jan Wouters back to Ibrox as his Rangers assistant manager after working together at Feyenoord.

Rangers risk losing Van Bronckhorst as manager over assurances

But Rangers risk losing out on naming Van Bronckhorst as their next manager over the key assurances he is seeking.

That’s because the Daily Mail report the Gers will tell Gerrard’s successor they must cut the club’s wage bill.

They will also have to work with a smaller support staff than Gerrard had due to their levels of debt.

Rangers’ wage bill increased by 80 per cent to £48m-a-year during Gerrard’s three-and-a-half-years as manager.

So, Van Bronckhorst’s desire to replace Gerrard as manager may come to an end after his talks with Wilson.
